The Cause:

About Vine Maple Place Vine Maple Place works to break the generational cycle of homelessness for singleparent families. Our vision is a safe and stable home where every parent and child can thrive. Through our evidence-based Stable Families program, we provide traumainformed, integrated services that enroll the entire family, helping parents gain skills in financial literacy, life skills, and career development, while children receive mentoring, tutoring, and coping support. Our approach works—92% of families remain stably housed a year after leaving our program. In our current fiscal year, we will serve 1,850 families—5,764 children and adults— providing safety through housing to 160 new families each month. Our two resource centers in Maple Valley and Kent help families from south King County, including Maple Valley, Covington, Black Diamond, Auburn, Kent, and Renton. The Need Despite our efforts, there is a significant service gap. Last year, we received 5,256 calls for help.  Of the calls, 2,290 came from single-parent families in our service area, yet we can only respond to half, turning away the other half. These single parents who are calling are experiencing toxic stress and trauma while sleeping in their cars, couchsurfing, or days away from being homeless. No child should have to sleep somewhere unsafe or frightening. It costs just $38 to provide one night of safety and care to a family.  It costs $1,140 to provide one month of safety and care which includes a safe, stable home, nourishing meals, trauma-informed counseling, job readiness training for parents, and tutoring and mentoring for children. Your support means we can say, “yes” to more families who need help.
